On 11 January 2023, MINURSO SMO, Lt. Col. (Dr) Latifa Rahman (Bangladesh) gave a presentation on the theme: “Facing Health Challenges in the Mission Area”. Over 55 % of female UNMOs attended the virtual presentation including the Acting Deputy Force Commander, Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye (Ghana) . The presentation, the first in a series targeting specific concerns raised by female UNMOs, focused on three main areas: “Healthy Living”, “Challenges in the Mission Area”, and “Mental Stress”. During the discussion session, female UNMOs stressed the importance of these targeted presentations focusing on specific challenges faced by women UN Military Observers and highlighted that these interventions provided important additional information to help them adapt successfully to life in the challenging conditions of the Sahara Desert. “Sharing and caring keep us smiling”, Colonel Rahman stated at the end of the discussion, the first of several being coordinated by MINURSO’s Bangladeshi Medical Unit.
