The members of the Security Council expressed concern over the political deadlock currently facing Haiti. They reaffirmed the immediate need for Haitian actors to engage in an inclusive and open dialogue and to form a government that responds to the needs of the Haitian people without further delay.
The Council members took note of the efforts made by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and of the role played by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Haiti through her good offices. They emphasized that all stakeholders should continue to make use of these opportunities and act swiftly.
The Council members stressed the urgent need to find a solution to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Haiti through coordinated action by the Haitian Government, the United Nations, and the international community.
The Council members recalled that the Haitian Government must address the underlying causes of instability and poverty in the country. They urged all stakeholders to refrain from violence and to resolve their differences through peaceful means. They stressed the importance of ensuring accountability and delivering justice to the victims of recent outbreaks of violence, particularly those that occurred on 13 and 14 November 2018 in La Saline and from 4 to 7 November 2019 in Bel Air.
The members of the Council reiterated their determination to work with Haiti towards a democratic, peaceful and secure future.
