Asia and Pacific

The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) manages United Nations special political missions worldwide. These civilian field presences support conflict prevention, peacemaking, political dialogue and peacebuilding, helping countries and regions navigate complex political transitions and sustain peace.

Special political missions include country-specific operations and regional offices led by senior representatives of the Secretary-General. DPPA also supports the Secretary-General’s special and personal envoys and advisers, who use his good offices to help prevent and resolve conflict and advance UN mandates. Together, these missions and envoys are central to the UN’s efforts to address political crises and promote peaceful solutions across regions.
